Hungry Eyes

Coopers Hawk

One evening as we were sitting on our back patio, we heard a rustle through the trees and a thump. “What was that?” Michael asked as I quickly pulled up my camera and began snapping away. A few snaps later and I had the perfect shot of this Coopers Hawk right before he took off.

I must have searched through a hundred songs about eyes, before I landed on the title for this post (Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen). Seems appropriate to me, since he was out grocery shopping (as Michael likes to say) when he made a layover in our maple tree. What do you think? Do any other songs about eyes come to mind?

Backyard Fun with the Macro Lens

In an effort to get in some “photo-therapy” I decided to pull out my macro lens and wander around our backyard for inspiration. It’s Fall here in Atlanta so there’s not too much blooming. But, nonetheless, there is ALWAYS something to photograph in a backyard.

Take for instance, the faded blooms off a hydrangea bush. They are truly beautiful in their own way.

And you certainly can’t deny the beauty of this pink rose. This is the only rose bush that has performed well for us this year.

And Mother Nature gave me a bonus while shooting the pink rose. This little fella decided to get into the picture, too!

I enjoyed getting back out with the Macro lens and also working with the images in Photoshop Elements to enhance their colors and bring out their features.

The fall colors are beautiful and are falling rapidly. So, who knows, I may just have to get back out there for a little more “photo-therapy.” Stay tuned!

Until next time,

Peddling Through the Fall – Backyard Fun

Fall peaked in Atlanta this past weekend and it was truly spectacular! Everywhere we drove the trees were in full color! Reds, yellows and greens bursting in all their glory. It has been a few years since I have seen such abundance of colors. Perhaps it was the extra rainy summer we had, or maybe Mother Nature just decided to give us a show. For whatever reason, I couldn’t resist stepping out into our backyard and snapping a few photos of the bicycle and birdbaths before the leaves were blown away.

Mid-morning, shooting slightly into the sun! I don’t usually like lens flares, but these just seemed to give the bicycle a little extra personality. What do you think?
One of these is not like the other, can you guess which one? A snapshot looking downward into the birdbath with the leaves floating in the water.
A different perspective of the bicycle. Don’t you just love the baskets full of leaves?
3 birds chatting over some fallen leaves in the birdbath.
That’s a LOT of leaves! I hate to tell him that the wind blew more leaves all over the yard just after he left!

As you can probably tell by the last photo, we have a couple more weeks of leaves falling so I’m hoping to snap a few more photos before they all disappear. How are the Fall colors in your part of the world? I’d love to see your colors!

Until next time, Happy Fall!
