30 Days of Hummingbirds – Day 9

📸”Come Here Often? – 30 Days of Hummingbirds – Day 9

📝Photographer’s Note: Sometimes (a LOT of times) the right shot isn’t your best shot. At least that is the way I feel about this one. The subjects are there, the composition is there, but because my settings weren’t right the photo isn’t as crisp as I would like it to be. I’m ok with shots like this because I can see where I went wrong and know how to adjust next time.

❓Did you know a hummingbird must consume approximately one-half of its weight in sugar daily?

30 Days of Hummingbirds – Day 1

If you read a recent post “For the Love of Hummingbirds” you know I am a huge fan of these little garden fairies. They not only brighten my day, but challenge my photography skills. You have to be both quick and patient at the same time to get the perfect shot. At times it can be frustrating, but mostly it’s entertaining to watch them as they dance around the feeders and blooming plants in the garden.

In just the last week their activity has really picked up. I don’t know if it’s the homemade food or the extra feeders, but they are definitely giving us a good show this year. With all of this increased activity I decided to give myself a little challenge over the next 30 days by posting photos every day of these beautiful little creatures. Who knows, perhaps a few will end up on greeting cards, prints or an inspirational quote?

To kick off my challenge here is this cute little guy feeding off our Wandering Jew plant.

I hope you enjoy this journey with me. Until tomorrow!

For the Love of Hummingbirds…

HUMMINGBIRDS. The smallest of all birds they are native to the Americas and comprise the biological family. Trochilidae. With about 360 species, they occur from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, but the vast majority of the species are found in the tropics (source: Wikipedia )

If you’ve followed along with me for a while you know that for the past 4 years hummingbirds have been one of my favorite photography challenges. They are sneaky and quick. You never know when they will appear. I have spent countless hours waiting and watching for these tiny garden fairies to appear, hoping to get the perfect shot!

I had almost given up on them this year. And it seems like a lot of other hummingbird watchers had given up as well. But, the past few weeks these little garden fairies seem to be making their appearance. This little guy gave us quite the show the other night.

They say hummingbirds spiritually represent inspiration and hope, and can be a guiding light that can move you closer to fulfilling your dreams. I don’t know about moving me closer to fulfilling my dreams, but I do know they bring inspiration to my photography!

Here’s to a new week filled with inspiration!
